Air Source Heat Pumps – Renewable Energy for Homes

Air source heat pumps have suffered some bad press in the past, due to low quality machines which were released onto the market before being fully tested. As Revolution Power focus on quality we have opted only ever to install high quality air source heat pumps, from branded manufacturers, who have test data across the whole operating range and have not been swayed by low cost heat pumps.

As with most technological advances, and heat pumps are no exception, they only work if you calculate the heat loss from the building correctly. Taking a whole house approach to the system design because if you get it wrong at the design stage then it may never satisfy the heat demand when you need it most, in the depths of winter.

Air Source Heat Pump Installation - 4 Bedroomed Detached Home, Newton Aycliffe

Mr Mike Corry of Newton Aycliffe approached Revolution Power as his 25 year old gas fired boiler was inefficient in providing his heating and hot water and in need of replacement. In replacing his boiler, Mr Corry was keen to reduce both his on-going energy costs and his carbon dioxide footprint for his 25 year old 4 bedroomed detached house located in Newton Aycliffe.

To help Mr Corry to achieve this goal, Revolution Power specified and installed a new 14kW Air Source Heat Pump system from Mitsubishi which uses the new Zubadan hot gas injection technology to achieve efficiencies of around 350%. The Heat Pump has a compact external unit which can be discretely placed and operates down to -25°C. It uses electricity to drive a refrigeration system which draws ambient heat out of air in the garden and concentrates it into warm water.

Air Source Heat Pump Installation - Barnard Castle, County Durham.

We were contacted in June and our clients were interested in reducing their heating bills and going green for an existing house in Ingleton.

After a site visit it was found to be most cost effective to install an Air Source Heat Pump, and complement the system with a Solar Thermal Solution, for all their hot water and heating requirements.

For this installation we were confined to a small airing cupboard to house the domestic hot water cylinder so we had one specially made for the job!

The Air Source Heat Pump works in a similar manner to a Ground Source, but takes the heat from the outside air.
