Ground Source Heat Pumps – Renewable Energy for Schools & Colleges in the UK

A ground source heat pump is an ideal source of heat for a school, as once it is sized and calculated correctly then you will have a system which is relatively maintenance free with low running costs. With our ground source heat pumps they can be connected to the fixed or mobile telephone network to alert our engineers via a text message as to any problems which have occurred. We are then able to dial in remotely and diagnose any issues, the heat pump can then be reset or an engineer visit can be arranged.

Ground Source Heat Pump Installation -Rock Hall School, Alnick

The School was founded in 1984 to provide a thorough grounding and preparation for secondary education in either the independent or maintained sectors for boys and girls 3 - 13 yrs.

This main objective was to provide heating and hot water for the new hall building and integration into the under floor heating system.

A Ground Source Heat Pump was the only viable option given that alternatives were oil and lpg, thus saving a third of the running costs. Also the GSHP is perfect for under floor heating as both systems work more efficiently at lower temperatures.

The project was funded under the Low Carbon Building Programme Phase 2.

Ground Source Heat Pump Heating - Longridge High School, Preston

We were asked by T Jolly of Preston to provide a ground source heat pump for heating only. This was to heat an existing building attached to the main school, via under floor heating.

The area for the GSHP installation as you can see from the picture on the right was in a small cupboard. The Dimplex SIK ME which is very compact in design, incorporates an integral buffer tank which feeds the under floor heating, is ideal in this situation.

The heat pump extracts its heat from 6 boreholes drilled by our specialist drilling sub-contractors.

This installation was completed in August 2008.
