Solar Thermal Energy – Solar Heating & Solar Energy for Schools

As our children are our future, I think that it is of great importance to demonstrate and educate our children as to the renewable technologies that are available, and how they can be used to our advantage to supply the comforts of modern living without damaging our planet in the process. The flat plate façade, solar thermal flat plate collectors as shown in our case study on Edlington School in Doncaster, are a good example of what can be achieved with the many installation methods available with Schuco solar panels.

This hopefully will prove to be a discussion point with the children and teachers at the school empowering them to discover renewable technologies.

Schüco Solar Thermal Water Heating System – Mexborough High School, South Yorkshire

Following a specification by engineers CAD21 we were asked by N G Bailey to price up a Ground Source Heat Pump integrated to a Solar Thermal Water Heating System for the new build School in South Yorkshire. The main contractors for this project were Norwest Holst.

After the initial enquiry and information gathering we designed a fully integrated system for the GSHP and Solar linked into one cylinder.

The specialist borehole drillers that we sub-contracted started in August and the connections for all boreholes were made and linked into a central concrete chamber ring encompassing the manifolds. From there flow and return pipes were installed underground to and from the plant room and into the heat pump. The next part of the installation was rooting the twin flexible solar pipes from the flat roof to the plant room. They then connect into a solar pump station and then into the solar coil in the cylinder.

The next part of the job was installing the heat pump with the brine circuit and heating circuit and all the electrics, control items etc.


Solar Thermal Heating – NG Bailey Edlington High School, South Yorkshire

Following a specification by engineers CAD21 we were asked by N G Bailey to price up a Solar Thermal Water Heating System for the new build School in South Yorkshire. The main contractors for this project were Norwest Holst.

After the initial enquiry and information gathering we designed a system combining Solar with a 500 litre cylinder.

The first part of the installation was routing the twin flexible solar pipes from the side of the school to the plant room. They then connect into a solar pump station and then into the solar coil in the cylinder.

The next part of the job was mounting the solar collectors on to the special façade system which comes with full flashing kit. This was a perfect solution to this particular installation as there was nowhere else to position the solar panels. Also mounting these collectors vertically means that you get a higher efficiency in the colder months of the year, which suits the hot water demands of a school well.
